Detroit’s Best Soul Food Cafe Brings The Flavor to Morningside
To call yourself the best at anything, you must be able to back up that claim. So far Morningside’s newest culinary option, Detroit’s Best Soul Food Cafe is doing just that.
Open six days a week (Closed on Mondays), Detroit’s Best is bringing some of your all-time soul food favorites to the neighborhood.
There are the standard selections such as the Baked Chicken and Pork Chops to choose from. Some of their premium selections are the Caribbean Oxtails and MaryAnn’s Lamb Chops.
My personal favorite is the Pepper Steak and Rice combination. I have enjoyed this dish on several occasions since the opening of the soul food cafe. It hasn’t disappointed yet! Its extremely flavorful and has a nice kick of spice with the red and green peppers. I usually add a side of fries and mac and cheese. (A variety of sides are available to choose from).
Another great feature that Detroit’s Best has is their Lunch specials Tuesday through Thursday from 11 am - 2 pm. The specials consists of a main entree and two sides all for $12.
Detroit’s Best Soul Food Cafe is located in the former Ziggy’s Bar and Grill at 16390 E Warren.
Father and Daughter owners Jai Lee and Melba Dearing took the former Ziggy’s and began a full renovation of the building to bring Detroit’s Best to life today.
The owners are also in the process of renovating the two spaces that face E. Warren. The plan is for two additional restaurants with one consisting of a Mexican cuisine eatery, tentatively titled Tulum.
If you haven’t tried this soul food cafe, please do yourself a favor. I’m confident that you will not be disappointed.
