What’s Up at the Alger?

Mark your calendars now for a gardening event on Thursday, May 21 when Annie Hakim, co-owner of Featherstone Garden on Lakepointe, will show neighborhood children how to get ready to grow their own gardens. Stay tuned for details.
In the meantime, we’re helping with HOPE applications at the storefront on E. Warren next to the theater. HOPE (Homeowners’ Property Exemption) allows low-income homeowners to reduce or even eliminate their property taxes, depending on their income. Call me at 313-720-3904 for more information and to make an appointment.
As for the theater itself, now that we’ve gotten a new roof, elevator, and ADA-compliant bathroom, we can turn our attention to the lobby and mezzanine. Since the Alger is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, we can approach major donors.
Last but not least, our newest board member, Nic Hall, is helping revamp our website. He does a great job with the Morningside website, and we’re fortunate to have him offer his skills to this project as well.
