Curb Appeal: Going the Extra Mile on Three Mile

This month we are featuring a home located on Three Mile, where the yard is turning neighbors’ heads as they go by.

You would never guess that Victoria Dorsey, the owner of this beautiful yard, only moved in two and a half months ago! The previous owner had installed the flower box, which Victoria has added more plants to. All of her additions have elevated the garden’s beauty to a new level.

Her yard features a variety of flowers and shrubs, wind chimes, a fountain, and unique lighting throughout. When asked about her favorite part of the yard, she says she loves all of it! Each plant and feature work together to make it beautiful, and not one thing overpowers another.

The most challenging part of maintaining her yard, she says, is the weeds! She says they are tough to combat - a sentiment I am sure we can all agree on. But Victoria is a firm believer in the “pull ‘em and mow ‘em” method and avoids using any harsh chemicals in her garden. She shared with me her favorite gardening tip, which is to use old coffee grounds, tea leaves, and eggshells in her soil to help fertilize the plants.

The entrance path is lined with beautiful plants including hostas, daisies, marigolds, and more! It is framed by two bright yellow Russian Sage plants, another gift from the previous owner. The color invites people to smile just looking at them. She says she is most excited to see how her wildflower mixes come out and to see how well her sunflowers continue to grow. Each plant is a beautiful compliment to the vision she has brought to reality.

Although new to the neighborhood, Victoria has loved many parts of Morningside so far. She loves that people are often out and about and that they actually enjoy talking to each other. She says the community is very welcoming.

She loves that there are also many amenities close by, such as a grocery store and laundromat. So far, her favorite thing to do this summer is to sit on her front porch and enjoy the neighborhood and people that go by.
