Brilliant Detroit: September 2025 Recap

September was full of energy and learning at the Morningside Hub! From Garden Club and Read, Write, Roar to Art & Social and Power Up Fitness our weekly programs kept families engaged and connected. Special highlights included our Taco Night Community Dinner, Healthy Hearts Health Night, and ongoing support through neighborhood donations to the Community Closet and visits to the Tech Hub. We’re so proud of the way our families & neighbors showed up and made the start of the 2025–2026 school year amazing—inside and outside the classroom!

Healthy Hearts Health Night

Our Health Night with our friends from Wayne State University was a huge success! M.D. Candidates shared valuable tips on keeping our hearts and lungs strong and healthy. Families had the chance to learn, ask questions, and leave with practical steps for better wellness. The kids were especially amazed by getting to actually see and touch real lungs while learning about the effects of smoking—it was such a powerful and memorable experience!

October Program Highlights:

Play & Learn
Brilliant Detroit Morningside invites families with children ages 0–5 to join our Play & Learn groups! These sessions are all about learning through play while building connections. Children get to explore and grow alongside others, and parents/caregivers discover new activities, enjoy uplifting conversation, and connect with valuable resources in the community. Why join? Because play isn’t just for kids—it helps all of us connect, learn, and feel happy!

The Next Chapter Book Club
Turn a new page & join us for a monthly adult book club in partnership with the Detroit Public Library! Caregivers, parents, and community members are invited to connect, learn, and spark meaningful conversations through thoughtfully selected fiction and non-fiction books.

Martial Arts
Build coordination, strength, agility, and flexibility through fun martial arts practices that support overall well-being!

Improv
The Detroit Creativity Project’s Improv Team is back at the Morningside Hub leading an 8- week acting program for children! Kids will learn the art of improvisation, practice group storytelling, and create characters—all while having lots of fun.

Adventures in Science
Kids will explore exciting science topics through hands-on experiments, learning to think and write like scientists while building both literacy and science skills. It’s all about discovery, curiosity, and having fun while learning!

The Learning Kitchen
A hands-on cooking and nutrition program where adults learn practical skills and cooking techniques to support lifelong healthy eating habits.

3D Printing
An exciting 8-week program for kiddos to explore shape design, geometry, and 3D creation through hands-on activities. Kids will even print their very own 3D design to take home!

Blood Pressure Hub
Starting October 7th, learn how to check your own blood pressure outside of a doctor’s office using our provided monitors. A Blood Pressure Monitoring Champion will guide you on proper technique, share tips for accurate readings, and provide education on hypertension. Local clinic resources for ongoing care are also available.

Harvest Fest 10/30
A fun festive vibrant celebration of the Fall season, bringing the Morningside community together to enjoy fellowship through festive activities such as pumpkin decorating, harvest-themed treats and food, kids interactive activity zone, and more!
