A Note from the President: Our Community, Our Service
Morningside Community Organization’s annual board nomination process began in April and concluded with the May 12 community meeting at Bethany Lutheran Church. Thanks to generous donations, the evening included pizza, salad, filtered water, pears, and the always delicious chocolate chip cookies. While the food and conversation brought everyone together, the main focus of the night was for eligible members to vote for who would serve our community in the year ahead.
This year, members filled the positions of First Vice President, Treasurer, and six At-Large seats. We also took time to recognize the long service of Twiana Odom, who has served on the board for many years and is now shifting her energy to other community projects. Adrian Green, who has served as board treasurer, was also thanked for four years on the executive team and will continue serving in another capacity.
Each candidate shared a brief introduction and spoke about the issues that matter most to them. Listening to them, I was reminded that service begins where your heart is. For some board members, Morningside is where they live. For others, it is where they work. No matter our stage in life, each of us is willing to represent the neighborhood where needed and bring forward projects and information that shape our day-today lives.
Whether the conversation is about bike rides or blight, Motor City Makeover (see our photos), or planning for our three surrounding neighborhoods to come together for the Summer Sizzler Festival, the evening made one thing clear. We are better neighbors by being good listeners and through a willingness to take action in service to one another.
Thank you to the current MCO Board members: Executive Team: Jeffrey D. Lewis II, First Vice President; Nicolas Hall, Second Vice President; Eric Dueweke, Secretary; Quintin Sweat, Treasurer
