Let’s make a logo!

We are in the process of making a new logo. We need your help!

Start here to learn about the backstory, then use the form below to share your thoughts.

Our goal is to create a logo which showcases our community, and we want our residents to be part of the development and proud of the results. When we asked the community what was most important, the following key words were the most popular:

FRIENDLY

SAFE

WELCOMING

DIVERSE

We thought about the elements in a logo that might reflect both the past and the present. We located an image from many years ago of Morningside flags, and we wanted to keep the sun motif as that covers Friendly, Safe, and Welcoming.

Reference Material

Note the flags on the light poles, this was our inspiration based on our communities past efforts.

But what about Diverse? We realized that the majority of our homes share some kind of double arch, and there are many variations. With those images in mind, we have come up with some initial designs which include a sun+arch motif which speaks to our values in their simplest visual interpretation.

The presentation below gives us a place to start this discussion, these are not final logos. This will allow us to have some visual references so those not familiar with the process of branding can learn how it works and join in. Our goal is to create a final brand package, and that will be comprised of an icon, a textmark, a tag line and a color palette.

Let’s define these items:

  1. ICON - this is a symbol/illustration which can identify us in its simplest form. Examples of an icon include the Nike swoosh or the Apple icon (the apple with the bite taken out)

  2. TEXTMARK - This is the wording that can accompany the icon, using the examples previously, the text which spells out Nike and Apple are textmarks. Sometimes a logo can just be a textmark, for example think of the Disneyland logo

  3. TAGLINE - In our case our URL will be the default tag, but we can also consider working on one for us. Our internal working tag line is simply, “welcome home”

  4. COLOR PALETTE - A logo system has to work in black and white as well as color. Typically there is a primary color, a secondary color and in more complex branding systems, you might see a larger color set. For example Google uses 4 colors where Starbucks uses one (green).

The logo and our internal brand promise acts as the foundation for everything we will create together, from websites to swag to signage and so on. While it will be impossible to please everyone, our goal is to end up with a solution we will all be proud to own collectively!
