Planning for Detroit’s Future Enters Its Final Stage

The city of Detroit has been working on developing a new Master Plan since February 2024 and is entering its final stage now.

The last time we developed a plan of policies document was in 2009, during the Great Recession. We all know how much different Detroit looks today and how our priorities have changed.

Topics included in the Master Plan include land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing, economic vitality, health and safety, and other quality of life issues. Those in charge of its development have committed to “center the plan in equity, resiliency, and sustainability.”

The city has compiled the results of community meetings and resident surveys conducted over the last two years to complete a first draft of the Master Plan for a final review. The process is expected to wrap up in early 2027. Even if you never attended a meeting or completed a survey, you can still weigh in to fine tune the vision for our city’s future. Here’s a link to the most frequently asked questions.
