On the morning of Saturday, March 29, nearly 200 volunteers of all ages—including neighbors, local businesses, community organizations, and religious groups—gathered to plant trees along Alter, Wayburn, and Maryland between E Warren and E Outer Drive. The event, sponsored by The Greening of Detroit, brought together partners like U-SnapBac, Detroit Public Library, and Keep Growing Detroit to connect with the community while adding beautiful maples, oaks, redbuds, and serviceberries to our streets.
After a brief tutorial from Greening of Detroit staff, volunteers were given tools and directed to locations to plant their trees. Now, just in time for spring, those new saplings are starting to bloom—marking the return of these blocks' original tree-lined streets from decades past.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and for strengthening the future of our neighborhood and environment!
