New Mural Brightens Up E. Warren
Eastside Love Letters is the brainchild of local Detroit artist Mila Lynn (known as @mindofmila), working in partnership with the City Walls Detroit mural residency program. This community-driven art project will include five eastside neighborhoods, including Morningside.
The Morningside initiative was introduced to residents several months ago at a Morningside Community Organization general meeting and included a “listening session” at Terri’s Cakes on E. Warren. As part of Mila’s vision “to use my talent to inspire, educate, and uplift my world,” she asked residents to suggest short positive messages to brighten the spirits of people passing by. And the new mural at the intersection of E. Warren and Outer Dr. does exactly that.
Mila is seen here putting the finishing touches on it. “This mural isn’t just paint on a wall,” Mila says. “It’s pride. It’s care. It’s a reminder that the community is seen. That’s the power of public art. It turns everyday spaces into places people can feel connected to.” Find out more about Mila’s work on Facebook and Instagram. She’s also looking for a location for another mural in Morningside, so message her if you have any suggestions.
